Bed & Breakfast, B&B

B & B is the most common type of tourist accommodation in the UK and Ireland. The term Bed & Breakfast appeared in the UK after World War II.
At that time, many foreigners needed a place where they were able to stay, so the local people opened their houses and began to provide space for accommodation. In addition, they began to offer breakfast to their guests. Before that it had been a common practice to be put up for a night by people from the same social or professional group e.g. a doctor would stay at another doctor’s or pharmacist’s place. Having visitors in private homes did not mean just making guest rooms available but it also involved inviting the guests to the living room. Meetings between hosts and travellers were a source of mutual exchange of information and news. Therefore, traditional Bed & Breakfast is always kept in the house in which its hosts live.
This gives the guests the opportunity to talk, to establish a closer contact and spend their time in a family atmosphere.

The idea of Bed & Breakfast

Bed & Breakfast trend travel is gaining more and more popularity worldwide and increasing numbers of supporters who, instead of the typical atmosphere of hotel anonymity, choose the homely atmosphere of a Bed & Breakfast. Additional elements, which are distinguished by a B & B is relying on healthy food, homemade products and providing services in compliance with the principles of ecology and environmental protection. B & B facilities are often run
in historic houses, villas, castles, renovated storage buildings, mills, on boats, etc. The list is as long as the diversity of cultures and places. Often the standard of service provided is above average, and the interior decoration reflects the personality and character of the owner.
